Computer Maintenance

Backup, Backup, Backup!

Backing up your computer is the single most important thing you can do to preserve your data. Many PC & Mac users make the mistake of thinking there hard drives will not crash until it is time to replace, or tend to procrastinate.

Having worked with computers for many years now I can tell you that it is not always possible to recover data if your computer is experiencing technical issues. In many cases if the hard drive has not failed and the file structure is in good shape, we can back up the data by simply placing the hard disk in another computer or drive bay.

There are certain scenarios however when users accidentally format or delete important data. Fortunately there is still hope for recover. Though it’s a little more expensive, we can still rescue your data provided the hard drive is mechanically in good shape.

Then there are the nightmare crashes. The type of crashes you experience when your machine wont launch Windows or shows up with a Folder and Question Mark on a Mac and starts making strange clicking and spinning noises. The average life expectancy of a hard drive is only 3 to 5 years! The expectancy is even less in laptops considering their constant exposure to movement and physical abuse. When your hard drive mechanically fails, the scope of options for recovery becomes very slim. Though in some cases it can be done, one needs professional and expensive tools or a service which can be up to $1500 or more! For this reason alone, it’s best to backup your data.
