Hardware Review #1 – Logitech G35 Surround Headset

Dec 11, 2010

Logitech is a company with a lot of experience creating high quality parts such as headsets, speakers, mice, keyboards, webcams and more. Their products are usually very satisfying for most people and that is particularly true with one if their newest products, the G35 Surround headset. The G35 is a high build-quality headset with an integrated sound card, a microphone and a few new exclusive features including 3 programmable buttons on the left speaker cup, a stereo to surround switch and a red LED on the microphone to indicate if it is currently muted or not.   The 3 additional buttons allow such functions as voice morphing and multimedia control. It is very comfortable for almost anyone unless wearing glasses in which case at the beggining of usage, the pressure put on the head might be a problem. The packaging includes a CD with the software which can be updated to a newer version on the website. The software on the CD is used to enable the voice morphing ability.
Thanks to the 7.1 surround technology, any gamer will be able to identify where specific sounds are coming from such as the shots of enemies or the maneuvers in a racing game which may often be very useful. Others may prefer to simply switch to listening music. Therefore Logitech has included a switch on the left speaker cup that allows to go from 7.1 surround to 2.1 stereo. Outside of all the great features, the only minuses are the USB connector and the price. Because of the USB, the computer requires additional processing to be made in order to create the sound which could mean minimal preformance decrease on older hardware. As for the price, the headset costs between 90$ to 160$ depending on the place of purchase.
Overall, the G35 surround headset is a great choice for any computer gamer or any person who likes to enjoy high quality sound during movies or simply when listening to music. Thanks to the bonus features that the headset includes, anyone who likes to video chat or voice conference with others over the internet will have a more satisfying experience though changing voice or the ease of use.
